2nd Swing trade-in: how it works and what it pays

Updated October 1, 2026 · By the ClubComps team

2nd Swing buys used clubs online through its Value Guide and at six stores. It paid the most of nine retailers in a recent head-to-head test. Here's how it works, the 10% cash catch, and how its offers compare with selling yourself.

How it works

  1. Look up your clubs in 2nd Swing's online Value Guide. Clubs, shafts, rangefinders, GPS units and other golf tech are accepted, with no limit on quantity.
  2. Ship them. 2nd Swing sends a prepaid FedEx label for $9.99, taken out of your payout. One label covers up to 15 clubs in one box.
  3. Inspection. Shipping takes 3–7 business days and inspection another 5–7. Staff grade each club's condition (such as New, Average or Below Average) and price it to match.
  4. Get paid. Store credit lands the same day your clubs are processed. Cash follows 2–4 business days later.
Cash pays about 10% lessStore credit (and a credit card refund when you buy clubs at the same time) pays the most. Check, e-check and PayPal run about 10% lower.

2nd Swing also has stores in Minneapolis, Minnetonka, Scottsdale, Wilmington, Columbia and Dallas if you'd rather trade in person.

How 2nd Swing's offers compare

In MyGolfSpy's November 2025 test with a used Ping G440 Max driver, 2nd Swing offered the most of nine retailers, about $15 more than the next group:

RetailerTrade-in offer
2nd Swing$294.94
Golf Galaxy$280.80
GlobalGolf$280.80
TaylorMade$280.50
DICK'S Sporting Goods$280.00
Worldwide GolfUp to $280
Callaway Golf Pre-Owned$250.00
Golf Avenue$225–$270
PGA TOUR Superstore$224.00

For comparison, used G440 drivers sold for a median of $372 on eBay in our data. If you charge the buyer $15 shipping, eBay's 13.6% fee plus $0.40 comes to about $53, and a label and box run about $18. That leaves you about $316. See our eBay fee guide for the math.

2nd Swing's $294.94 is about 93% of that. Take cash instead of credit and it drops to roughly $265, and the $9.99 label comes out either way. An older Practical Golf test with a TaylorMade M1 driver showed a bigger gap: 2nd Swing offered $92 against about $135 netted on eBay.

When 2nd Swing's trade-in makes sense

If you need cash and the clubs are worth over $150 or so, selling yourself usually nets more. Check what your model sells for in our price lookup first.
